This popular style chapel dates back to the 18th century, and was reformed by a battalion of Republican prisoners during the post war period.<\/p>\n<p>The curious history of the chapel goes back to about 1764, when the festivity of the saint began to be celebrated, as is shown in documents kept at the parish register. In that time, cereals were the main crop grown and the town was heavily dependent on them.<\/p>\n<p>One summer, there was a plague of locusts that started to quickly devour the crops. Nobody knew how to stop it and people despaired. Eventually, on St. Zeno\u2019s day, July 9, there was a strong gale and the plague was carried away miraculously, thus saving the crops.<\/p>\n<p>Later, in gratitude, the Xerta people erected this chapel as a favourable memory.
